It’s Week 29 and we are (re)connecting with being amazed – an emotion that children in particular, are very familiar with. They look at the world with wide eyes, full of wonder and delight about things we as adults generally take completely for granted.
Amazement encompasses the bewilderment about seemingly magical things the logical mind cannot comprehend as well as the astonishment you feel when you come in contact with beauty or exceptional skills.
There is another side to being amazed, which tilts towards shock and disbelief about something that has presented itself and that may feel not quite as uplifting but is equally mind-boggling because you judge it from a place of incredulity. For example when someone does something you didn’t think they were capable of or, alternatively, when they do something you consider lacking in common sense.
For the next few days, I am inviting you to (re)discover the sense of awe that comes from deep appreciation of people, places, activities, information and things. Also notice the slightly perplexed feeling of being baffled by what is commonly called ‘stupidity’. Feel the difference and become aware of what it feels like to be astonished and amazed in two different ways.
